Dr. Boot’s Medical Collection

Collection of artefacts formerly belonging to Moruya’s first surgeon, Dr. Edward Boot. It incudes his anatomy textbook used while studying surgery at Trinity College, Dublin, in 1834; his surgical saw; and a framed portrait. Dr Boot arrived in Australia as ship’s surgeon on the immigrant vessel United Kingdom in 1841, bringing his family to Moruya to settle just a month after landing. Practicing in the town for 58 years, he was the district’s only surgeon for almost half a century. He passed away in Moruya on 4 September, 1899.

Dr. Boot’s collection is located at Moruya Museum
