Folding Beach Hat and Carry Bag

This red and white spotted cotton beach hat was an elegant accompaniment to the casual “resort” fashions of the 1930s, which saw flared trousers and bandana-style blouses known as “beach pyjamas” introduced. The hat was tied at the chin with straps and had sprung wire sewn into the brim, allowing it to be twisted and flattened to fit into a matching bag.

The hat and bag are part of the collection of the Batemans Bay Old Court House Museum.
