Laurie Seaman’s Camera

Laurie Seaman’s camera, found with his remains at Rawson’s Pass on Mt Kosciusko. Seaman and fellow Millions Ski Club member Evan Hayes became separated from their party while cross-country skiing to Mt. Kosciusko on 4 September, 1928, perishing in a blizzard. After an extensive search, Seaman’s body was found on 9 September. His American parents later financed construction of Seaman’s Hut at a site near where his remains were found. Hayes wasn’t located until the following year. The pair were the first skiing fatalities in the recorded history of the Australian Alps, their deaths eventually resulting in construction of the chalet at Charlotte Pass. Film in the camera contained images of Seaman and Hayes standing on the summit of Mt. Kosciusko.

Laurie Seaman’s camera is part of the collection of the Thredbo Ski Museum.
